Functional Jackets

Functional jackets for demanding outdoor activities such as running, biking or sports climbing should be particularly breathable, windproof, water repellent and lightweight.
They have to quickly get any vapor out, not allow the cold to get in and offer great freedom of movement. Also, you should be highly visible, have everything within reach and be able to adjust everything easily.
Not quite a little number of things to demand from a sports jacket. But the high-quality training jackets by Maloja, Patagonia, Vaude, Schöffel or The North Face provide exactly those features.Read this, if you want to know what a sports jacket should excel at.

Which features does my sports jacket have?

Depending on the temperature and weather condition there are different possibilities for a variety of uses.
In cool weather and dry conditions as well as a general midlayer, jackets made of stretch fleece such as Polartec Powerstretch or Polartec Powerdry have proven themselves when it comes to sports. They are highly wind resistant, breathable, tough and so stretchy that they follow your every move as if they were a second layer of skin. They are suitable for any outdoor sports from running in winter to climbing and mountaineering. If you like cycling you should go for a model without a hood.
Windproof jackets are either light windbreakers or softshell jackets, they provide complete wind protection and are water-repellent. Commonly they are stretchy as well as abrasion-resistant and they can be carried in a backpack. They can always be combined with a warming layer or be used under a hardshell. An adjustable hood and thumb loops or reflectors make sense here.
Besides, there are waterproof lightweight sports jackets and can be carried easily in your sports bag or backpack (e.g. 2.5-layered models or jackets made of Gore-Tex Active shell. Color, lengthy tailoring on the back and good adjustability make sense here.
Lastly, there are insulated sports jackets mad of synthetic fiber for activities in cold weather conditions. They are windproof and water-repellent and can be worn as a midlayer or an outer layer. Here you have Primaloft Sport or Polartec Alpha as a fill, just to name a few.
