Sustainability
at Alpinetrek
We strongly believe that time is best spent outdoors. At the same time, we are aware that our natural environment is under great threat, especially from climate change. That is why it is clear to us: the time to act is now! As a result, we have deeply integrated the issue of sustainability into our corporate strategy and into everyday life at Alpinetrek.

You can find out what that means here.

Our path to improved sustainability

A meeting between our managing directors, Matthias and Ronny, and Fridays for Future activists in 2019 set the wheels in motion: the time to act is now! As a company, we can and must make a positive difference to sustainable development. That was the starting point of our sustainability journey. In the meantime, we have already achieved some important milestones:
Focus on climate protection: We began by addressing the subject of sustainability on a strategic level. It quickly became clear that sustainability is a highly complex issue. We could not deal with all of the problems at once. That is why we initially focused on climate protection.

Our first measure: The preparation of our Carbon footprint of the year 2018. This gave us an initial overview of where our emissions came from and where we could make the biggest difference. In addition, with the help of certified climate protection projects, we compensated for all of our emissions retroactively up to the founding of Alpinetrek in 2006.

A focus on reduction: From the beginning it was clear to us: our first priority is to avoid and reduce emissions. In 2020, we were already able to implement some effective measures, such as switching to green electricity and biogas at our two operating locations.
Ambitious goals: After we took our first steps towards improved climate protection, we quickly realised that more had to be done. We therefore set out to find an internationally recognised framework that would both verify our commitment and establish credibility. This led us to join the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and voluntarily commit to ambitious, science-based climate protection targets. Our goals have been officially validated by the SBTi since October 2021. Find out more here.

Working together towards effective climate protection: When it comes to climate protection, we really want to make a difference. The best way to do that is together. That's why in 2021, together with four other retailers - Bergzeit GmbH, Sportler AG, Internetstores Holding GmbH and Yonderland - we founded the Outdoor Retailer Climate Commitment . The goals of this voluntary network: to promote a change in thinking within the outdoor industry and to encourage other outdoor retailers to actively combat climate change.

Taking sustainability further: In 2022, we developed a holistic sustainability strategy that encompasses both environmental and social aspects.
“If, at some point, there is no longer a real winter in Germany, then no one will need skiing equipment. The outdoor industry lives from nature and should therefore also protect it."
