Softshell gilet - freedom of movement guaranteed!

Softshell Gilets

Whether you're hiking in a beautiful Alpine landscape, going on a sweaty trek or a long bike ride - softshell gilets are an ideal companion. They warm the upper body and guarantee full freedom of movement during sporting activities. A softshell jacket can quickly be packed into a backpack and takes up hardly any space. A softshell vest is the ideal solution when a jacket is too much and you're constantly on the move. Softshell vests are characterized by their windproof material, which is also very breathable. So your upper body will be kept warm and the skin can breathe anyway. Body moisture is wicked away from the skin to the outside and evaporates off the surface of the vest. The skin therefore stays dry and warm. Lightweight softshell gilets aren't too heavy but still pleasantly warm. They're often made of a quick drying material, which doesn't get soaked with moisture. They are water-resistant to a certain degree, in some cases, even waterproof.

What makes a softshell gilet?

A softshell vest normally consists of many layers. The inner layer is often slightly brushed and soft and therefore very comfortable to wear. The outer layer protects against wind and is to a certain degree also water repellent. So a softshell gilet is perfect for mild temperatures. Softshell gilets can be perfectly combined with a t-shirt, long sleeve or fleece. Softshell vests reliably warms the upper body. This is perfect for stop-and-go tours, so you don't cool down too quickly when you pause. You don't have to take off the vest at every break, because good ventilation ensures that it stays comfortable. The material is usually very robust and abrasion resistant, so it can withstand even a backpack. A high level of elasticity guarantees unhindered freedom of movement. In addition, the drying time is hugely reduced by the elastane.

Differences in material

Depending on what outdoor activity you have planned - softshell gilets come in a variety of materials. Softshell gilets, made of very fine, breathable material, are perfect for trips where you can take very little luggage. So some vests are made of an intelligent material mix. They combine a windproof front with a breathable back! For mountaineering, when it can get particularly cold, you should consider a warm lining or a slightly thicker material. Some softshell gilets come with laminated seams and keep wind and water out for longer. In terms of weather protection, it doesn't offer as much as a hardshell vest, but it's perfectly adequate for drizzle or light snow.
