08.05.2024Brilliant boots
These boots are brilliant and have allowed me at last to go back on steeper rockier hills. I have problems with my Achilles tendon and have not been able to wear boots at all (and I have tried out quite a few pairs of boots). I was stuck with wearing shoes which is not ideal in rockier and steeper terrain. I then tried these on a walk last week where the terrain became steep and narrowed to a ridge where some scrambling was necessary. I put them on and was waiting for the usual Achilles pain and there was none! The boots are stiff enough to make straightforward scrambling a real pleasure and are secure and protective when crossing rocks and boulderfields. I am so pleased to have found these - stiff and robust enough to cope with more demanding terrain outside winter months but soft enough around the back of the heel to prevent irritation of the Achilles tendon. Anyone who has similar problems might find these would also work for them.

01.04.2020Great but getting them on is hard work.
Everything other than actually getting these onto your feet is excellent.
The elephant in the room is the built in sock/gaiter. The opening is far too small, noting the material doesn't stretch enough and is very restrictive.
If, like me, you've wide feet then you'll find it challenging to get them on. The strange thing here is the foot bed within the shoe accommodates wide feet.
I'm having to use two shoe horns to get them onto my feet and only able wear thin liner socks.
I'm still a fan of Salewa products but more R&D required on this particular shoe.
