The X1 by Evolv have an aggressive cut and an impressive downturn, but still give a very sensitive feel of the surface.
They are most at home on technically demanding routes. With their heel tension and decent downturn, these specialists tick all the boxes on the steepest overhangs with tiny holds. While the EX-P midsoles have a stabilizing effect and transfer the strength of the feet precisely onto the rock, the Trax outsoles provide outstanding friction for the most secure hold, even on steep footholds.
The asymmetrically cut X1 fit the feet like a sock. The VTR system makes a significant contribution to the shoes’ good fit: the different thicknesses of rubber on the uppers firstly save weight and reduce uncomfortable pressure points. Secondly, they are particularly robust and grippy on the hardest working areas.
The X1 have strong heel tension so the foot fits snugly into the heel, which gives them a lot of grip for hooking, as well as generously proportioned toe patches for successful toe hooks.
The toe box of the X1 has an average volume. “Love bumps” provide comfortable relief for curled toes in the form of bulges for them to rest on. This provides a great deal of relief, especially for the big toes.
A single hook and loop fastener that has been mounted so that it doesn’t interfere with hooking, is enough to keep the shoes securely on the feet.
The X1 climbing shoes by Evolv have been designed for training hard indoors, as well as gnarly routes and bouldering projects on rock.
Note: to help you find your size, Evolv has categorised the fit into three groups based on your objectives: Max Performance, Performance and Comfort.
- Max Performance: this is your street shoe size. This fit is designed for the best possible performance, perfect for pushing your limits. You will need to break in the shoes.
- Performance Fit: if you prefer a snug fit that is comfortable to wear from the start, add half a size to your street shoe.
- Comfort Fit: if you prefer a comfortable fit for multi-pitch climbing or if you're a beginner, then add 1 to 1.5 sizes to your street shoe.
