The Escalante 5 looks much better and more durable than the previous version. The rubber sole covers almost the entire bottom. The new look is very attractive. The shoes retain their signature features, although the sole thickness has increased by 3 mm. Unfortunately, the new heel counter design means they're too small for my feet. The Escalante 4 in size 44 fits me perfectly, but the Escalante 5 in size 44 is too tight! I need to buy a size 44.5. My foot length is 273 mm. This may depend on the shape of my foot, as the 280 mm insole is theoretically a good fit and identical to the Escalante 4. I'd like to point this out in case you're buying these shoes at the last minute before an event.
