Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for your question!
The Source Widepac 2 and Source Widepac Ultimate 2 use the same basic hydration bladder technology (Widepac opening, Glass-Like film, Grunge-Guard antimicrobial treatment, Helix bite valve, BPA-free materials), so water taste, hygiene and durability are essentially identical.
But the Widepac Ultimate 2 is the more fully equipped version:
- Additional screw cap on the front for quick refilling without opening the entire Widepac slide closure.
- Insulated textile hose cover, which helps reduce UV exposure and keeps water cooler for longer.
- Low Profile design with a central baffle/stabilizing divider, helping the reservoir keep a flatter shape and improving load distribution in the pack.
- Slightly higher weight due to these extra features (about 190-195 g for the 2 L version).
Have a great day!
Amelie
