Traditional climbing shoes for precision and support with ankle protection
The Generator Mid from Scarpa are the result of two years of research. The goal was to develop a top product for trad climbers - and the results speak for themselves! These climbing shoes feature a relatively straight cut that makes them comfortable to wear for longer periods of time and therefore perfectly suitable for climbing large walls, for example. But of course, protection cannot be neglected, and this is taken care of by a raised toe guard made from durable rubber. Your ability to climb in cracks is unaffected by the toe guard, which actually enhances the precision of the shoes. Plus, the Generator Mid also offer good ankle protection thanks to the raised collar.
Edging stability and comfort
The Vibram XS Edge sole provides excellent edging stability, which, in turn, improves the climbing properties of the Generator Mid even further. Together with their excellent wearing comfort and stability, these shoes are ideal for continuous use and longer climbs on large walls and in cracks.

Big wall Alpine climbing
The rubber is too stiff and extremely slippery. I had a hard time adapting to it on Patagonian granite, and it’s not comfortable for big wall climbing, which puts the product at a clear disadvantage compared to other designs. It performs reasonably well in cracks, but on slabs it was a nightmare. At times, it actually felt better to climb in approach shoes or even barefoot.
