Product description
Let your no-holds barred attitude reign supreme with the Lowe Alpine Mountain Attack 45:55 Backpack. Spend the weekend pitching insane ice in Ouray, skinning and skiing through untamed terrain in the Sierras, or backpacking along Isle Royale without leaving essential gear behind. Without the lid, the pack offers 45 liters of storage—bring everything you own for one night away from home, or use your minimalist sensibilities when packing for a few nights on the road. With the lid, you have 55 liters and can throw your trail-weary bits in the lid so your dirty socks don't smell like dinner, and vice versa.
Ice axes rest securely in Lowe's proprietary HeadLocker system so you can freely climb without accidentally self-arresting on the concrete. Throw your ropes or crampons under the lid so inner pack space remains available for important stuff like 'biners and beverages. If the going gets tight and you must separate from your pack, thread a rope through the grab handle and lash loops and pull your precious gear to safety. These can also be used if you find yourself in need of a crevasse rescue.

Compression straps on the side do double duty, depending on your needs. If you're only going out for a day hike, take out the frame and eliminate excess volume by pulling the straps taut. If your chosen backcountry tour finds you off the snow for any amount of time, the compression straps hold your skis so you're not skinning your way up a dirt trail. The AdaptiveFit harness molds to your body when cinched down, and glove-friendly Load Locker buckles mean your fingers won't get frostbite when you need to adjust the pack. Tip grippers hold your poles when you don't need them, and multiple points of entry give you gear access options, none of which necessitate completely emptying the pack.

  • Glove-friendly pulls and buckles
  • Stow-away hip belt
  • Headlocker ice axe retention system
  • Removable and Tuckaway lid
  • Tip-gripper / walking pole loop

Great backpack

The backpack is really nicely designed.
So far I used it for 10 days in January in High Tatras.
The side zip is a great idea, easy to get stuff when the backpack is heavily packed.
Nicely designed straps for the rope attachment. Side straps big enough to attach snowshoes.
Clever ice tools/ice axes attachments.
Enough room - 45-55L!
The only negative impression was that fully packed backpack during long hikes was pushing a bit to the pants belt, so I had to adjust it from time to time.
