The Inertia X Frame from Klymit may look unusual at first, but you're guaranteed to be thrilled with its incredibly low weight and small pack size, which is comparable to that of a small water bottle!
One of the most remarkable things about this mat is the X Frame construction. The idea behind it is as simple as it is ingenious: Because the underside of a sleeping bag is just pressed down flat while you're lying on it, which causes it to lose its insulating effect, the Inertia X Frame is designed to allow the sleeping bag to expand into the gaps in the Klymit mat, which in turn allows the sleeping bag to regain its natural loft to a certain extent. Of course, the effectiveness of the construction depends on the quality of the sleeping bag. In any case, the X Frame construction saves a massive amount of weight as a result of the larger cut-outs in the torso and leg areas. The high-stress areas, such as the head, shoulder and hips, on the other hand, are supported by additional material.
All in all, the Inertia X Frame gets high marks for its minimalist pack size and is thus an excellent option for any ultra-light adventurer looking to shed weight. At this price point, it is almost unbeatable and perfectly suited for long distance hiking trails like Pacific Coast Trail and others!
