I have winter boots and mountain boots, and moved to the Pentland Hills in Scotland - these are just a great place to walk, and my heavier boots seemed to be overkill and my lightweight shoes not quite enough.
I have worn these boots through the summer and autumn into the winter and for hot days and wet days and ice and snow days, they just work for the pleasure of getting out into the fresh air, or as a stable platform for photography. I have also worn them doing abseiling and they were just brilliant at giving me the right confidence down the rock faces (I am not a climber!)
Up some munros in the winter they are too light, and when it gets seriously boggy, or deep snow, they are not quite high enough or warm enough, but for general walking and hiking they are my go to boot now.

This is my second pair of Manmut GTX boots back to back.
They feel initially small but they mould to your feet over time, so stick with them!

I’ve an old pair of Mammut Mercury I’m normally size 8UK but this pair are size 9UK and fit like a glove
Hi Sue, Mammut normally comes up true to size but note that these will be best suited to a wider foot. If your son has a slim foot, I would rather recommend a brand such as Scarpa.

For the sake of clarity, while the terracare leather used for these boots is made in Germany, the boots themselves are made in Vietnam.
