Supply chain
sustainable & responsible
One of our largest areas of influence when it comes to sustainability is in the supply chain. This applies to ecological issues, such as climate and environmental protection, as well as to social aspects, such as respect for human rights, the creation of fair jobs and adequate remuneration. Working in partnership with our suppliers, we can make a real difference here. Our first project: Advancing climate protection together with our suppliers.

SCIENCE-BASED TARGETS

We launched our sustainability journey with a focus on climate protection. From the very beginning it was clear: we take this issue seriously and we want to make an effective contribution in the fight against the climate crisis. One important aspect of this for us is that we wanted to create a solid foundation for our goals and have them externally validated. After a thorough review of various certifications and programmes, we decided to join the SCIENCE BASED TARGETS initiative (SBTi) and have set science-based climate targets that are in line with the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Agreement.
Our largest point of influence: the supply chain
Within the framework of the SBT project, we quickly realised that our biggest point of influence when it comes to climate protection lies in our supply chain. This is due to the fact that emissions generated by our commercial goods are around seven times higher than our corporate carbon footprint. Working with our suppliers in particular, we can make an effective contribution to the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Agreement. That is why we have actively approached our suppliers and encouraged them to do more to protect the climate.
Our targets
We have committed ourselves specifically to the following two goals. These have been officially validated by the SBTi since October 2021.

(1) We will reduce our direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 70%, from a 2019 baseline, by the year 2030.

Find out here how we are working to achieve this goal.

(2) We ensure that 75 percent of our suppliers (measured by spend) will have ambitious, science-based climate protection targets by 2026.

Achieving these targets will enable us to make an effective contribution to the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement.

What is the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative)?

The SBTi is a joint initiative founded by leading climate and environmental organisations, such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, the World Resources Institute, the UN Global Compact and the WWF. These organisations have set themselves the task of developing scientific methods and criteria for effective climate protection in companies and validating reduction targets on this basis. The SBTi is now considered an internationally recognised standard for science-based targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in corporate operations.

Supplier Code of Conduct

In addition to the quality of the products we offer in the Bergfreunde range, the way these products are manufactured is also important to us. That's why we introduced a Supplier Code of Conduct in 2025. This code defines the expectations regarding social, environmental, and ethical standards that we place on our suppliers. Thus, the Supplier Code of Conduct forms the basis of our collaboration and is an integral part of our agreements with suppliers. By signing, our suppliers commit to adhering to guidelines in the areas of human and labor rights, as well as climate, environmental, and animal protection. The content is based on national laws and international conventions such as the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. With the help of the Supplier Code of Conduct, we ensure that, we work together to build a supply chain that adheres to high social and environmental standards.
"In order to achieve real change in our supply chain, we are committed to building strong relationships and long-term partnerships. We know most of our suppliers personally and have regular communication with them."

Supply chain

True sustainability is not possible without transparency. This is the only way our customers can make a socially conscious purchasing decision. So we asked ourselves what would emerge if we put sustainability and transparency first in the entire planning and production process of a T-shirt. The result: a Alpinetrek T-shirt made from organic cotton with a fully traceable supply chain. This shirt was created in cooperation with the Swiss company Remei ,which specialises in sustainable and traceable value chains in textile production.

Of course, this is only a small, initial project. But we are determined to gradually optimise our supply chains.
