I buy a medium/32" waist in trousers. I admit middle age is having its effect on my waist. For example: 32" Kuhl jeans, and M Norrona trousers are both a little snug on me, but I can fasten them. These a something else: the M is so far off fastening that I think I would have to buy a XL to get a good fit. I love the colour and the fabric, so I may get another pair.

I'm adding to this, I see they are 'unisex', which may be why the sizing is different to what I am used to. But the size chart does say M is a 43" waist.
