I have just sent back three pairs of reasonably priced safety boots (size 12 UK & 13) because I just cant get my feet into the boots. Secondly they were made in China, they have a perspective for smaller feet. It was a bad choice of mine.
I am worried that the aperture of the boot will be restricting prevent someone with a high instep from getting into them. The tongue of the boot needs to be quite wide to get into them
Should I be ordering a size up to accommodate this aspect?
I am choosing a Hanwag Tatra II Bunion GTX - Walking boots because of the protective toe cap.
I also want super comfort for the duration of the boot and am now prepared to pay for it. £300 is a lot of money for boots!
But I do not want to be sending boots backwards and forwards because of the wrong size. Normally I am a size 12 UK. Lately I have been purchasing size 13 UK and it has been tight all round and cant get my feet into them. I have been wanting a pair of Hanwag's for a while and because of the expense i do not want to make any errors in my purchase. The added and most significant feature behind the purchase is that Vibram sole.
My other choices is Hanwag - Tatra II Wide GTX - Walking boots and Alaska Pro Wide GTX - Walking boots. I am asking for your advice and recommendation.

Sizing up to help with getting into a boot is not recommended as you will likely end up with a poor fitting boot. These boots open very well so it is easy to put on an take off the boots. Sizng from Hanwag is also accurate and the footlength measurement in the size chart will help guide you further.
"I am choosing a Hanwag Tatra II Bunion GTX - Walking boots because of the protective toe cap." The rubber rand at the toes is only there to protect the leather. These are not a safety boot. Why choose the bunion fit last if you do not have bunions? If you have a wide foot them the wide last should accomodate your needs.
The Alaska Pro are an excellent boot but they are heavy , stiff and very much designed with trekking and with a heavy pack in mind. The Tatra Wide would be a much better UK hill walking boot and almost a very good allrounder.
