Green Button

The Green Button is a German government seal for textiles that sets requirements for companies and products. It applies to clothing, home textiles, accessories as well as fibres, yarns and fabrics. The criteria are based on two levels. Firstly, companies must prove that they fulfil their obligations concerning human rights and environmental due diligence in the supply chain. These include risk management, complaints mechanisms and measures to improve working and environmental conditions. In addition, the products themselves must be proved, by means of certified labels, to have been manufactured in compliance with social and ecological standards. Examples include requirements for chemicals management, wastewater treatment and the prohibition of hazardous substances. Compliance with these requirements is monitored by independent test centres.
