The classic from Sweden

The Kånken from Fjällräven was launched in Sweden in 1978 and was originally designed as a backpack for school children. The idea was to offer an alternative to the classic shoulder bag. A shoulder bag is counterproductive for a straight back. The Kånken quickly became a bestseller and is now one of the most popular daypacks on the market far beyond the borders of Sweden!

Ingeniously simple!

The ingenious thing about the Kånken is its simplicity: the handles are snap-fastened and long enough to allow the backpack to be used as a shopping bag. The removable seat cushion in the inner compartment made of PE foam lets you sit comfortably during your lunch break. When it’s stowed in the backpack, it serves as soft padding for your back.

In addition, thanks to the backpack’s angular shape, it perfectly fits two Din A4 folders, making it ideal for school and uni. Another great feature includes the wide opening zip for easy loading and unloading, two side pockets for a water bottle and an umbrella and a small front compartment for bowls and such. The fact that this also resulted in a unique, fresh design was a nice side effect that makes the Kånken a real must-have for today’s modern city outfit.

Over the years, more and more accessories were added to Sweden's most popular backpack. In the meantime, rain covers, internal organisers and padded shoulder straps are available as optional accessories. Of course, you can also find all these practical accessories in our shop!

Note: the lighter areas are an optical effect of the base material. The base material is initially colourless or white and, according to the manufacturer, is dyed using a special water-saving colouring technique. It does not contain an additional environmentally damaging finish. It is possible that the deliberate omission of colour fixation in the finish causes excess colour to bleed and light traces of use to appear. The resulting appearance is deliberate and is not a quality defect.
