When you're heading out to get first tracks on a few feet of freshies, you want to hold off going home till your legs can't handle any more, not because your gear is insufficiently insulating. The skiers at Norwegian-based Sweet Protection are no strangers to harsh days on the mountain, and they create jackets that are ready for the most biting wind and unforgiving conditions. The Monkeywrench Jacket is equipped to accompany you in-bounds or out, top to bottom, and first chair to last.
Sweet Protection constructs the jacket with three-layer waterproof, windproof GORE-TEX fabric to block out cold gusts and snow squalls. It uses YKK's AquaGuard water-resistant zippers on both the main zipper and arm vents to seal out snow, with wrist gaiters and a stretchy, tuck-away powder skirt that will keep you dry as you slice through the fluffy stuff. The freeride-specific design means a longer length, but Sweet Protection contours the fit so that it's tailored rather than baggy, able to keep more snow out while still moving with you.
For all-day adventures, the longer, freeride-specific fit of the Monkeywrench provides plenty of room for essentials. You'll have laminated inner pockets to protect your phone and other valuables, along with a chest pocket and two expandable cargo pockets. The full hood is adjustable and can be worn over a helmet, too, and the asymmetrical, adjustable cuffs offer easy adjustment over gloves and mittens to keep snow and cold air out.
