Sportful‘s Fiandre line is named for the infamous spring classics that take place in northern Europe, races with courses and conditions so hard that only a select breed of cyclists will even bother to show up. As the flagship jacket of the Fiandre line, you might expect the No-Rain Jacket to be peerless when it comes to protecting your body‘s microclimate from the cold and wet of late fall, winter, and early spring. Well, it is. But what you might not expect is that it also has a look and fit worthy of any Euro-pro team. We‘re pleased to report that this is also the case.
Sportful built the Fiandre No-Rain Jacket with a blend of three materials. Since the front is doing most of the work, we‘ll start with the two materials it comprises. The stomach, chest, and lower back are Windstopper 4 Way Light and the arms are Windstopper 4 Way Warm. Both are among the stretchiest versions of Gore-Tex‘s Windstopper fabric. They‘re water resistant and literally classifiable as windproof, a condition that is quantifiable by a rating called CFM. CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute, and it‘s used to measure the volume of air that passes through a fabric in one minute. In order to be considered truly ""windproof,"" a fabric must register a CFM of equal to or less than 1.0, and anything bearing Gore-Tex‘s Windstopper label either meets or exceeds this rating.
The only difference between 4 Way Light and 4 Way Warm is that the latter has an additional layer of fleece insulation. The distribution of these materials around the jacket means that your torso, which generates more heat during exercise, is less insulated, so your excess body heat can escape even while the cold wind is being blocked. Your arms, on the other hand, don‘t generate as much warmth while riding, so they‘re given the plush thermal benefits of the 4 Way Warm.
The No-Rain Warm material on the jacket‘s back is where its name comes from, likely because it‘s unique to Sportful‘s line of clothing. The No-Rain Warm is really just ThermoDrytex Plus a stretchy, insulating fleece layer that also enjoys the benefits of Sportful‘s nanotech water repellent treatment. Though it isn‘t enough to keep you dry in a monsoon, it‘ll hold off light rain and snow no problem while offering yet more mositure-wicking breathability. Overall we should note that, though it does offer exceptional rain protection, we feel this jacket is best as a thermal/wind-resistant item first, and a water-resistant item second.
Unlike its sister jacket in the Fiandre line, the Light No-Rain Top, the No-Rain Jacket features Sportful‘s Bodyfit Pro cut, which is the same fit that Tinkoff-Saxo rides in the peloton. The exaggerated rear hem stows with snaps, the zipper is waterproof, and the high collar with a ThermoDrytex neck seal adds an additional barrier to the elements. The three color swatches range from subtle to bold, but they each feature one main color with contrast detailing.
The Sportful Fiadre No-Rain Jacket - Men‘s is available in six sizes ranging from X-Small to XX-Large in the colors Black/anthracite/red, Black/cyan, and Black/yellow fluo.
