Bib shorts for cycling

Bib Shorts

Don't let this strange name fool you! Bib shorts are highly functional and particularly comfortable cycling trousers. Keep reading to find out more about their features.

What exactly are bib shorts?

Bib shorts are form-fitting short that are equipped with braces to offer an optimal fit and maximum performance.
Avid cyclists opt for bib shorts not only because they’re aerodynamic, but they also fit well and don’t slip. Such trousers may not be the most practical when you have to go to the toilet. However, wearing them with functional baselayers and a cycling jacket whilst racing and mountain biking will not only prevent your sensitive kidney area from getting cold, but they’ll also prevent your T-shirt from scraping against your skin.
At the back of the high waistband, you’ll typically find multiple elastic pockets for stowing away an energy bar and your phone. In addition, bib shorts are equipped with a soft and protective seat pad, and you won’t actually need to wear anything underneath, which will prevent friction and pressure points from forming. In addition to preventing your legs from falling asleep, the padding also offers lots of freedom of movement whilst riding out of the saddle and going downhill on curvy MTB trails.
Unlike baggy shorts, bib shorts are very elastic and will nestle themselves against your body. They effectively absorb sweat and the fabric is quick-drying. Plus, they’re often equipped with reflectors and a silicone-coated waistband. Some brands, such as POC, Craft or Qloom produce bib shorts that are moderately to strongly compressive to support circulation in the thighs and to reduce muscle vibrations.
