I bought these robust looking Millet GTrek 5s with high hopes they might be suitable for some advanced trekking in Nepal at altitude. However, on wearing them for a few walks around Devon UK, I found them uncomfortable to walk in because of the abrupt heel strike and hard rubber sole. Looking at the heel design I'm not surprised: a large area is just flat with little curved run-off at the back. Normally there should be a smooth transition when walking from heel strike to forefoot push off. But there is little of that here - it all feels a bit clompy / clunky when moving forward. Walking uphill is okay, although there is a lot of flex at the forefoot so the crampon fitting is probably a bit optimistic. I think Millet are trying to create a combined trekking-mountaineering boot, but haven't achieved either - pity.

Been walking around in these for the last 10 months. G Trek 5 is actually so good that I've threw away all other hike and outdoor shoes right after the first use of these. Awesome stuff, ordered another pair for my other half.
