Product description

Flexible, lightweight and stable approach shoes

Whether you're tackling scree at the foot of the crag or traversing through mud, the TX4 approach shoes from La Sportiva love a challenge! TX4 stands for 'traverse across', meaning the best possible support and grip, even in rough terrain and on changing surfaces. They're perfect for technical approaches and via ferratas: ideal for mountain guides and anyone like you who spends a lot of time in the mountains and wears their shoes for long hours. Grip, comfort and protection on the approach are at the forefront of these shoes, designed to support your feet from the technical ascent to the base of the wall.

Durable materials for high resistance and durability

Their materials and features are multifunctional, covering a very wide range of uses from rock climbing to easy mountaineering and mountain running. Thanks to the durable leather, the approach shoes have a clean design with high scratch resistance thanks to the PU TechLite all-round edge. They’re built for the mountains.

Rapid lacing system

The lacing system is derived from the Mythos climbing model and allows the shoes to be tightened and the volume to be adjusted with a single movement. This makes it easy for you to make precise adjustments.

Soft Ortholite insole, cushioning EVA midsole and non-slip outsole

One of the most striking features is the grip similar to a climbing shoe. Plus, it has the Impact Brake System in the Vibram Megagrip sole that provides good cushioning. The outsole itself provides a non-slip grip on challenging terrain, whether it's uphill or downhill. The rubber reinforcement over the toe makes the TX4 approach shoes from La Sportiva very durable and wear resistant. Another great feature includes the injected midsole made of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) that has excellent cushioning properties. They’re completed by the Ortholite Approach 4 mm insole.

The features at a glance:

  • Suitable for approaches, via ferratas and technical climbing passages
  • Multifunctionality for a wide variety of surfaces
  • Suede upper with PU TechLite on the toe cap and heel for abrasion resistance and durability
  • Vibram Megagrip outsole for excellent traction
  • STB Control System for more stability
  • Rapid lacing system for easy and precise adjustment

Very close to being a very good fit

This is a nice shoe - lovely feel and wide enough for my 3e feet (went up 1/2 a size) Unfortunately, there was too much pressure above the metatarsal joint for me (I'm hypermobile) but it was a very good fit otherwise and light.

Question from STEPHEN
05.10.2021
Shoe size 48-50

My EU size is anywhere between 48-50 depending on the shoe or boot. Is it worth me ordering & trying the 47.5 on?

I wonder if they fit large they may fit me with thin socks.

It is free to order & return but would it be a waste of time?

Thanks

Hi Stephen, Sorry to say it would really be a wate of time for you with the TX4 as La Sportiva in general come up short and I would expect you'd be needing a minimum of a 48.5 which is not available.

Question from David
18.04.2021
Are these shoes true to size?

I'm usually a size 9 but wear a 9.5/10 if trail shoes are a narrow fit. What size would be recommended?

Hi David, The TX4 comes up a little wider and with more volume i the toebox than normal for La Sportiva and it also comes up short. Best to go up a half EU size from your normal EU size.

Thank you Adrian, a few people have suggested anywhere from half to full size up.

Hi David, I agree with Adrian in that 0.5 sizes up is a nice conservative choice to get a good fit without issue :-)

Hi Ian, this is a fairly flexible approach shoe to be honest. If you're looking for a stiff shoe I'd recommend the Hanwag Ferrata Low: https://www.alpinetrek.co.uk/hanwag-ferrata-low-gtx-approach-shoes/
