Question from Lauren

Are they suitable into brick wall?

My partner loves climbing but his job has anti social hours, I’d like to get him some grips for the side of our house. Would these be suitable?

Hi Lauren,
Attaching climbing holds to a brick wall is not impossible but you will need to consult a builder as you will need specialist fittings.

Hi Joe, I'd say no as there'll be too much movement or play. Best to stick with M10.

Do these also work with 3/8 bolts instead of M10?

Have the sinks for 3/8, not M10. Length of 3/8 bolt to buy would be helpful too. Thanks!

Hi Greg, A 3/8" bolt is about 0.019" smaller so either M10 or 3/8" will work here. The length of the bolts can vary depending on the thickness of the wall you're using but assuming it's inch thick ply then 1 1/2" or 1 3/4".

Shape

I am a new climber! Is there a lot of versatility in these holds? Will they be ok for a beginner? Are there jugs in the set as well?

Could you also please send a link with the screws I would need for them. Thank you!

Hi Charlie, set 3 is all small holds - you'd be best placed with set 5: https://tinyurl.com/y3gyazea
As for screws, you need M10 Allen bolts which you can find in your local hardware store :-)

Hi Stephen, If mounted correctly, there's no reason why they won't be suitable.

Hi John, Allen Bolts M10 x 40 or 45 mm plus suitable t-nuts to go into the mounting board. Unfortunately, they are not supplied with the climbing holds, but you'll find them at your local DIY store.

I am intending to place directly on a brick wall with no mounting board, will these still work?

They can be fixed to a brick wall but I wouldn't recommend it.

You'll have to glue the bolts in with an epoxy resin and once this is in the only way you'll get them off is with an angle grinder, and the bolts will be in there for good. You'll also end up with a wall like a swiss cheese from drilling many 10mm holes in it.

Sorry, I appreciate it might not be the answer you wanted to hear!

Surely a concrete screw would work?

Hi Sophie, These holds are definitely suitable for using outside. Personally I recommend fixing plywood sheets to the wall and then attaching the holds to that as it makes it much easier to reset.
