Product description
You see a mountain; you must go up it. You see rocky, inhospitable terrain; you must crush it. Somewhere up there past the tree line is a lone, scraggly shrub, and only its sparse leaves can sate your Alpine hunger. You fancy yourself a mountain goat, and the Giro Alpineduro shoes are your hooves.
Like your hircine inspiration, the Alpineduro presents a cloven, two-part sole to the ground. The area under your metatarsal bones is stiffened up in order to keep power transfer efficient and diffuse pressure from your pedals. The forefoot is engineered with a bit of flex that hinges on a nylon shank. The shank adds support across the middle of your foot, taking stress off of your calves and arches while also adding an element of additional armor to protect against the debris of rough mountain paths favored by goats.
Like many of Giro's other mountain shoes, the Alpineduro includes Vibram's Mont outsole. Mont comprises a pair of complementary compounds, IdroGrip and Megagrip, which respectively lean toward grip and durability for the right qualities in the right parts of the shoe. The outsole's tread pattern also provides debris clearance for two-bolt clipless pedals or accommodates flat pedal riding with optional cleat plate covers.
The upper is equally protective of your delicate hooves. It's made of the same breathable microfiber found throughout Giro's shoe line, but its construction — including the two D-rings used to reinforce the top two lace holes — is more akin to the upper you'd expect from a mountaineering boot than a cycling shoe. While it is breathable, it leans more toward shielding you from the elements, so there aren't any perforations or vents. This protection is increased by a waterproof liner and PrimaLoft insulation. The red laces, reminiscent of 550 paracord in looks and durability, tuck under a strap on the tongue to stay out of the way.

Schade!
