For advanced and professional climbers, big wall enthusiasts and industrial climbers - the Edelrid Basic II Sonderedition 10.5 mm is now available in a special Bergfreunde Edition! The static rope boasts a very low static elongation of only 3.7% and a breaking strength of 28kN. Hi Clem, this will work fine. Rope protectors obviously important. :-)

Question from Mark
27.07.2021
Hi, I'm replacing my old 100m ab line with a new 10.5mm one.

What's the difference really between this rope and the 'performance static' (similar price) and the much more expensive 'super safety II' ?
Basically used solely for abseiling off Fairhead cliff.
Handling qualities/endurance much different?
Is this rope perfectly sufficient?
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks

Hi Mark, this'll be grand for Fairhead. You could also consider the 9mm version which is still plenty durable but a lot lighter and a wee bit cheaper for 100m. https://www.alpinetrek.co.uk/edelrid-performance-static-90-mm-static-rope/

Hi Mischa,
Thanks! Yea - I’ve always had a 9 or 9.5mm ab line for weight.
Just that my mates 10.5 or 11mm also feel much nicer on 90m single abseils! Psychological I know!

Hi Harold,
I would say so, yes. 10,5mm is good for rope lifespan and you will want a static rope (or 'low-stretch' rope) if you aim to shoot climbs with good top access and ascend/descend on the rope.
Best, Erik

Question from David

Does this have any stretch? I.e 'semi static

Recommended as a rigging abseil rope on a climbing you tube. But ideal it should be semi static. Is this what climbers would call semi static?

Hi David - yeah, this is ideal. It's what we'd called 'low-stretch' rope and is what I personally use when abseiling big lines.

Hi Culum, yes, the Basic II will do. It is really sturdy.
However, if you want a rope that floats, you'd have to go for something like this:
https://www.alpinetrek.co.uk/edelrid-static-float-11-mm-static-rope/
https://www.alpinetrek.co.uk/tendon-salamander-102-static-rope/
Hope this helps. Best regards, Kay
