Product description

The Camp Figure 8 Chest chest harness is ideal for mountaineers who tend to climb with heavy packs or spend a lot of time around glacial crevasses! When carrying a heavy pack in place where you run the risk of falling, you should always wear a chest harness. This is important because in the event of a fall, the weight of your pack would render it nearly impossibly to hang in an upright position without exerting tons of energy. If you're hanging upside down whilst being simultaneously weighed down by a heavy pack, you've got to act fast! But, helping yourself would be significantly more difficult in a situation like this. More difficult still, imagine suffering an injury or getting knocked unconscious!
When the chest harness is connected to a sit harness, the tie-in point is located between your navel and the lower part of your sternum, hence somewhat higher than your centre of gravity.
Chest harness are also great thing for kids to wear, since their hips have not yet fully developed and sit harnesses usually don't fit as well. If a child were to fall without a chest harness on, he or she could slip out of the sit harness. What's more, a chest harness used in conjunction with a sit harness adds some much-needed safety to via ferrata climbing as well, as the fall factor is very high.
The special thing about the Camp Figure 8 Chest harness is its adjustability. The adjustment buckles are positioned in such a way as to not get in the way of your pack's shoulder straps. So, you can wear the chest harness for alpine climbing or with thicker layers of clothing for glacier ski touring in the spring.
