What types of Schwalbe tyres are available?

Schwalbe bike tyres are made for all kinds of uses and are available in various widths and profiles. Narrow tyres have less strong profiling and are best suited for racing bikes, touring bikes and city bikes, while both mid-width and wide tyres (from around 1.8 inches and up) are used for mountain bikes and are equipped with studs. Plus, Schwalbe has special tyres for balloonbikes (extra wide), folding bikes (small circumference), gravel bikes and cyclo-cross (slim with chunky studs).
In addition to the width, the circumference of the tyres is also important. Road and touring bikes come with 28 inch tyres, older mountain bikes with 26 inch tyres and newer mountain bikes with 27.5 or 29 inch tyres. The corresponding Schwalbe tubes come with specifications about width and circumference.
In addition, the correct type of valve is important (Sclaverand, Schrader, Dunlop). In general, tyres with a narrower width should be ridden with higher pressure tyres (4-8 bars), whereas mountain bikes require a tyre pressure of 2-3 bars. You should always have an appropriate air pump with a pressure gauge and check the pressure before long rides, or at least once a month.

What is a Schwalbe bike tyre made of?

Schwalbe tyres consist of several components: outside is an abrasion-resistant and non-slip rubber mix and under this is a soft padding. This makes the tyres puncture-resistant to ensure that pebbles and shards cannot damage the tube. Special puncture-less tyres have especially thick protection layers and are even protected against small nails.
As for the stable carcass of the tyre, it’s woven on the inside to ensure the shape is retained. And, the bead core of the tyre features a wire made of steel or Kevlar to hold it on the rim.
In addition, the company produces various types of tyres, such as folding tyres that are lightweight and foldable and clincher tyres that are good value for money and provide stability. As for their tubeless tyres, they require the use of a puncture protection liquid (Schwalbe Doc Blue) and are widely used in the racing world. The same goes for tubular tyres, which are glued directly into the rims.
Some other practical equipment include the Schwalbe tyre lever that ensures the tube is not damaged or scratched during fitting, a set for converting your tyre into tubeless tyres (check manufacturer's information on the rim) and special patches that are similar to tubes that can be used to repaird damaged carcasses.
