A lightweight among hiking tents: the Fly Creek HV 1 Carbon. With the Carbon Collection, Big Agnes focused on keeping weight to a minimum without losing sight of comfort. And, by combining a Dyneema fly with carbon poles, they have done just that. As a result of this excellent combo, this 1-man tent has become the first choice among ultra-light walkers planning on walking the E5 across the Alps or the Pacific Crest Trail through the west of North America. It is also ideal for spontaneous after-work activities: Just pack your tent, climb your local mountain and enjoy a night out in nature before going back to civilization the next morning!
As touched upon above, the Fly Creek HV 1 Carbon owes its popularity to the use of Dyneema fabrics and carbon poles. If you’re unfamiliar with these two materials, allows us to elaborate: Dyneema is touted as the "world's strongest fibre”, and rightfully so, as it is an ultra light, extremely dimensionally stable and tear-resistant polyethylene. An added bonus is that the material is 100% waterproof and allows for a welded construction, thereby eliminating any seams. The fly and floor of this tent are made entirely of Dyneema and complemented perfectly by the minimalist carbon pole set. If you didn’t already know, carbon is not only extremely light and flexible, but it also boasts an unbeatable weight-to-strength ratio. This makes the Fly Creek quite different from other ultra-light tents. While a lot of ultra-light tents out there need to be propped up with a walking pole, Big Agnes opted for a real pole system. This makes the tent free-standing and allows for a variable setup, even if there are no or hardly any anchor points at the location.
