Product description

Thick crash pad made from a 2-layer foam construction

The Bergfreunde Edition of the Paddy Kava V2 from Ocun is an incredibly reasonably-priced crash pad for every situation. This 9 cm thick crash pad is made from a 2-layer foam construction and reliably absorbs falls when bouldering. A layer of closed-cell foam distributes the impact energy, while a thicker layer of open-cell foam absorbs the residual energy to further reduce the force of an impact. In addition, two carrying handles and shoulder straps allow for different carrying options, with the comfortable backpack straps certainly being the most comfortable way to transport the crash pad to your climbing spot - especially given its low weight of just 4.5kg.

A practical companion for every bouldering spot

The Paddy Kava V2 consists of two parts that are connected with a zip. An incredibly practical feature is that the parts can be coupled lengthwise and crosswise - so this crash pad can fit under just about any boulder, and is also particularly suitable for traverses. As a bonus, thanks to the length-wise coupling option, you can even use it as a sleeping mat for overnight trips! The tough outer material and sturdy aluminium buckles ensure the necessary durability and make the crash pad particularly easy to care for. Should it get dirty, you can simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth. And for those breaks between climbs, the Paddy Kava becomes a comfortable lounger on uneven ground - simply perfect for just about any bouldering spot you can think of!

The advantages at a glance:

  • Cushioning crash pad made from a two-layer foam construction
  • The two parts can be connected via a zip
  • Comfortable to carry
  • Can be coupled together lengthwise and crosswise
  • Can be wiped clean with a damp cloth should the crash pad get dirty
  • Fantastic price-to-performance ratio

One of the best bouldering mats for the price!

The cost and diversity of this bouldering mat made it an easy choice. The adaptability to be used in different configurations and the zip means that you can potentially have 3 different mats in one package and easy to store unit.

Great buy

This is the second one I have order due to the fact that for the price you won't find a better boulder pad anywhere. It's real comfortable yet hard enough that you know your not going to roll an ankle or wrist on impact. The first pad I order has taken some serious abuse and only has a small punch hole to show for this but due to the nature of the sport this was always likely to happen. Delivery was prompt but have to say that the uk delivery company need to seriously work on their tracking system as when I received the pad the tracking service said it was still in koln.

Cheap, not hardwaring

Wore through the side stitching fairly quickly compared to other pads. Pretty thin, but does the job. Good closure system. Doesn't have the attachment system that the dominators have for carrying multiple pads. Sad about the lesser quality of material joining, so depends on what you're looking for out of your pad

  • Disadvantages
    Wears too quickly

Good Matt, does the job!

It's much stiffer than most matts, but I quite prefer that - particularly when you have a particularly rocky landing. It's quite small compared to other matts also - which can be good or bad. Pair it with a big cushiony moon matt and you're good!

Cheap and cheerful

It is decent size and while the cushioning is very stiff and takes a while to break in, it does the job very well. Took two on recent trip to Font and they were perfect.

And sleep pad.. ?

I'm not much of a boulderer so haven't used it much as a crash pad. I bought it because of the price and the 2 ways it can be zipped. I have slept on it several times. It needs a soft topper to make it comfortable unless you like a super firm matress.
I haven't managed to use the straps to make an easy chair that doesn't roll back yet ;o)
