Ok, I’ve had a pair of Aku gtx-surround shoes before (lightweight for off-road type running & walking) and they were great.
This time I was after a slightly more solid (but lightweight) walking shoe ... and I am not disappointed.
Have bought through Alpinetrek in the past too, but it’s always a bit of a worry buying shoes by mail ... though as it turns out they fit well. Putting them on, the instep *is* a close fit (I have a high-instep, fairly wide foot) due to the stretchy ‘sock-like’ tongue set-up with no ‘fold’, but once on it is fine (& will probably ease with time, anyway).
Good quality (Aku are much respected), a Vibram sole & keenly-priced ... they are comfortable out of the box (only done a short walk to try them) and I think they will serve well :)
(No connection with Alpinetrek / Aku other than as a customer, etc., etc.)
Spent my whole life (almost) wearing approach shoes, all are really comfortable. These however, are next level. Excellent approach shoe that I wear everyday.
